Challenge 1

Next Generation
Scanning Technology

Next Generation Scanning Technology

Think you have a ‘Budding Detectorists’ technology?

Do you have insight, ideas or designs on how to improve scanning technology?

Different scanning technologies are now a common part of all our lives. The technologies with the potential or capacity to perform these everyday tasks are in use across a range of different industries. Whether that’s a hospital x-ray, a trawler searching for fish, or an astronomer looking for the next star or asteroid.

So, if you’ve created or repurposed imaging technologies that has potential to, for example:

  1. Detect coins in your pocket when you pass through airport security
  2. Detect a tumour inside a body or tissue, or
  3. Detect an object deep below the surface of land

…then this is a challenge for you!

If you think you have a solution to this exciting challenge, please register to see the full specifications of the challenge and to access a chance to win US$10,000 (including any local taxes in your home country). Plus an all expenses invitation to attend a conference to speak about your winning solution.

Deadline for the final submission of the challenge is Midnight (GMT) 25th February 2019.

Challenge 2

Frugal Innovation
of Magnetic Coils

Frugal Innovation of Magnetic Coils

Think you can design a low-cost advanced magnetic coil system?

Electromagnetic coils are electrical conductors in the shape of coils, spirals or helices that have become ubiquitous to many of our modern world technologies and products.

This kind of technology can be found in applications such as generators, electric motors and inductive sensor coils and is in use across a range of different industries. Whether that’s exploration, underground water mapping, or carbon dioxide sequestration.

However, despite their widespread use and popularity, their cost is still high and being able to build a low cost magnetic coil system remains a great challenge.

So, if you can come up with a magnetic coil equivalent of Southwest Airlines, IKEA or the Aravind Eye Care System from India that has given sight to millions at lower costs, then this challenge is for you!
